educativas e políticas promotoras do desenvolvimento sustentado,
A partir desta finalidade definimos várias linhas
orientadoras/objectivos que permitiram chegar aos resultados
indicados.
This study of Environmental Education was motivated by the current revision of the curricula, which will probably include some transformations not only in what concerns the curricula plans, but also the sylabuses. Having in mind that the Environmental Education is, presently, one one of the most dynamic areas of the educational activity and even of research, which has led the international organisations and governments to establish educational objectives and promoting policies of the supported development, we wanted to know how these problems are being put into pratice in Portugal, both in formal learning and in what concerns Secondary School. Based on this aim we have defined several supporting guidelines that made it possible to us reach the final results. This research took place in a secondary school based on two population samples, one from students of the 11th and 12th forms and the other from teachers. The results were taken from the analysis of two questionaires which took place in the end of the school year 2000/2001. In order to analyse these results we used the SPSS informatic program. This research reveled failures concerning the implementation of the Environmental Education in Secondary School, more precisely in what refers to the dependence in the sylabuses of the environmental topics, to the relations established among subjects (transversality and interdisciplinarity), to the teachers’formation in this domain, to the frequency of the use of active methodological strategies based on the solution of real problems and in an education focusing the environment, as well as in the level of the supply of enough environmental knowledge. The study also reveled that the principal source of environmental information is the media and only then school, which leads us to a fundamental necessity-to establish a strong relationship and complement between formal an non-formal education. Although teachers agree with the basic ideas of the New Ecological Paradigm, they reveal pratices where we can verify the obstacles (both structural and funcional) in the implementation of Environmental Education and they can’t find any clear strategy proposed by the Ministeries of Education and Environment appropriated for this level of schooling. |
