Turismo cultural em espaços religiosos: um estudo empírico na cidade do Porto

Abstract

O turismo realizado em espaços religiosos permite uma gama de classificações e interpretações relevantes, para melhor percebermos o tipo de turista que frequenta estes espaços, os seus interesses e possíveis ligações estabelecidas com o património histórico-religioso. Consideramos o grande valor de estudar os espaços em seu sentido simbólico, e neste trabalho, fazemos uma abordagem profunda sobre os temas relacionados à memória (coletiva e individual), identidade e património, em uma perspectiva de construção do “sentido do lugar” (place attachment) como fator de grande valia para a profundidade da experiência turística. A presente dissertação consiste em um estudo exploratório, de caráter qualitativo, sobre em que medida os visitantes de duas das atrações turísticas religiosas da cidade do Porto – Sé Catedral e Igreja de São Francisco – estabelecem uma ligação com património visitado. Através da recolha de dados com entrevistas semiestruturadas, direcionadas aos visitantes das atrações religiosas, procedemos a uma análise de conteúdo temática. Pretendemos, por este meio, perceber se os visitantes das atrações religiosas as reconhecem enquanto espaço simbólico. Ao mesmo tempo, procurámos conhecer o interesse dos sujeitos em ter acesso ao património imaterial, nomeadamente as estórias e lendas portuenses, bem como o conhecimento destes sujeitos com relação aos monumentos visitados.

The tourism accomplished in religious spaces allows a range of classifications and relevant interpretations to better understand the type of tourists that often visit the religious sites, their interests and possible connections/attachment estabilished with the historical-religious heritage. We considered the great value of studying about the spaces in its symbolic sense, and in this dissertation, we build a deep approach on the themes related to the memory (collective and individual), identity and heritage, in a perspective of construction of the “place meaning” (place attachment) as a valuable elemento for the depth of the tourist experience. This dissertation consists of a qualitative exploratory study about the connection/attachment estabilshed between visitors and two of the Porto’s tourists attractions – Sé Cathedral and the Church of São Francisco. Using semi-structured interviews focused on the religious site’s visitors, we proceeded with a thematic content analysis. We sought to understand if the interviewed visitors recognize the religious attraction as a symbolic place. At the same time, we seek to know the subjects’ interest on having access to the immaterial heritage, such as the stories and legends from Porto City as well as subjects’ knowledge about the visited heritage sites.
