O potencial do turismo de teatro em Aveiro: o estudo da festa de S. Gonçalinho

Abstract

São inúmeras as manifestações que numa sociedade, mesmo não sendo consideradas como teatro, são reproduzidas de modo semelhante àquilo que se observa nas práticas teatrais. Entre estas pode incluir-se a festa, que apesar de não demonstrar uma relação evidente com o teatro, esta se revela a partir do ritual e do jogo, dois elementos presentes em ambas as práticas. Por conseguinte, o sector do turismo não se restringe apenas aos meios de alojamento, transporte e entretenimento, mas também inclui todas as manifestações culturais que motivam a visita dos turistas. Nestas manifestações podem incluir-se o teatro e a festa, dois elementos que não foram desenhados com o objetivo turístico, mas que possuem grande potencialidade a este nível e que configuram um tipo de turismo cultural que tem vindo a ser designado na literatura da especialidade por Turismo de Teatro. A presente dissertação consiste num estudo exploratório, de carácter qualitativo, que procura compreender e aprofundar a relação existente entre a festa e o teatro e evidenciar de que modo essa associação pode ser integrada na atividade turística, nomeadamente através do conceito de Turismo de Teatro. Para isso, será estudada uma das festas mais tradicionais de Aveiro – a Festa de S. Gonçalinho –, com o intuito de explorar o seu potencial enquanto atrativo de Turismo de Teatro. Foram realizados dois focus group com participantes portugueses e estrangeiros da festa e entrevistas a três dos mordomos responsáveis pela organização da mesma, concluindo-se que a Festa de S. Gonçalinho apresenta uma forte dimensão teatral e espetacular, evidenciada pelos seus rituais e tradições de celebração festiva: a dança das cavacas, o cortejo dos ramos e passagem de testemunho aos novos mordomos e a dança dos mancos. Observou-se ainda que estes momentos contribuem para o interesse turístico pela festa, pelo que esta poderá vir a tornar-se num atrativo de Turismo de Teatro.

There are numerous manifestations in society that even without being considered as theatre, can be reproduced in a similar way to what is observed in the theatrical practices. These manifestations can include the festival, which although it does not demonstrate an evident relationship with the theatre, this is revealed through the ritual and the game, two elements present in both practices. The tourism sector is not restricted only to the accommodation, transportation and entertainment segments, but also includes the cultural events that motivate tourist’s visits. These manifestations may include the theatre and the festival, two elements that were not designed with a tourist purpose, but have a great potential at this level and form a type of cultural tourism that has been designated in the literature as Theatre Tourism. This dissertation consists of a qualitative exploratory study that seeks to understand the relationship between the festival and the theatre and show how this relationship can be integrated in tourist activity, namely through the concept of Theatre Tourism. For this purpose, it will be study one of the most traditional festivals of Aveiro – the S. Gonçalinho Festival – in order to explore its potential as a Theatre Tourism attraction. Two focus group with Portuguese and foreign participants and interviews with three of the responsible for the organization of the festival were conducted, in which was concluded that the S. Gonçalinho Festival has a strong theatrical and spectacular dimension, evidenced by their rituals and traditions of festive celebration. It was also observed that these moments contribute to the tourist interest in the festival, what means that it could become an attraction of Theatre Tourism.
