Estudo sobre a violência nas relações de intimidade : especificidades do contexto prisional

Abstract

O presente estudo pretende contribuir para a compreensão da Violência nas Relações de Intimidade em Contexto Prisional. Para o efeito, tenciona avaliar a prevalência da Violência por Parceiro Íntimo (VPI) dos reclusos no género feminino e género masculino, quer nas relações atuais quer nas relações passadas e procura verificar se existem diferenças significativas ao nível da manifestação da violência física, emocional, sexual e económica. Considera-se como outro objetivo desta análise a identificação do tipo de comportamento violento mais frequentemente perpetrado e recebido nas relações íntimas atuais, no género feminino e no género masculino. A amostra é constituída por140 reclusos do Estabelecimento Prisional de Santa Cruz do Bispo, com idades compreendidas entre os 22 e 64 anos, dos quais 70 são do sexo masculino e 70 do sexo feminino. Os participantes foram avaliados em diferentes dimensões com recurso ao Inventário de Violência nas Relações Íntimas (IVC, Machado, Matos & Gonçalves, 2000). De uma forma geral, os resultados obtidos sugerem maior perpretação de VPI no género masculino, nomeadamente ao nível da violência de carácter físico, emocional, económico e sexual. Por outro lado, em termos de vitimização, os resultados indicam que as mulheres são frequentemente mais propensas a sofrerem comportamentos de violência física, não se verificando diferenças significativas ao nível das outras categorias de comportamentos abusivos. Dos resultados encontrados, destaca-se uma preponderância da violência emocional em ambos os géneros com umas ligeiras diferenças ao nível da sua manifestação. A interpretação dos resultados bem como as suas implicações são discutidos à luz de literatura relevante.

The present study aims to contribute to understand the Violence in Relationships of Intimacy in Prison Context. It plans to evaluate the prevalence of Violence by Intimate Partners of prisoners in females and males, both in current relationships and in past, and seeks to verify if there are significant differences in the expression of physical, emotional, sexual and economic violence. Another objective of this analysis is the identification of the type of violent behavior more often perpetrated and received in intimate current relationships in females and in males. The sample is composed of 140 inmates of the Prison of Santa Cruz do Bispo, with ages between 22 and 64 years old, of which 70 are male and 70 female. The participants were evaluated in different dimensions using the Inventory of Violence in Intimate Relationships (IVC, Machado, Matos & Goncalves, 2000). The obtained results suggest a greater Violence by Intimate Partner perpetuation in males, particularly physical, emotional, economic and sexual violence. On the other hand, in terms of victimization, the results indicate that women are often more prone to suffer physical violence, there are not significant differences in the level of other categories of abusive behavior. The results found there is a preponderance of emotional violence in both genders with some slight differences in its expression. The interpretation of the results and their implications are discussed in the light of the relevant literature.
