ABSTRACT: This paper focuses on the exploitation of Second Life® as an educational platform, specifically regarding formal learning and informal learning. As learning is a fundamental theme in the world of education, it is important to know how these types of learning are understood in a 3D virtual learning environment and if there is a consensus as far as their definitions are concerned. The methodology used in this study was the Survey, in order to gather opinions on learning in a virtual environment, from professionals in the world of education, specifically in virtual environments. Thus, teachers attending Second Life® were interviewed, giving their opinions about how they understand formal learning, non-formal learning and informal learning in this virtual environment. The interviews were semi-structured and conducted in virtual environments. Data were analysed on the basis of keywords, and confronted with literature on the subject. From this comparison a definition of formal and informal learning in virtual environments was developed. This dissertation has the ultimate goal of contributing towards understanding and reflection as far as the teaching-learning process in virtual environments is concerned, as well as to overcome the lack of definition of types of learning associated with this specific context. | por |
