| pt |
dc.description.abstract | Buçaco National Forest has a wide and valuable cultural and environmental heritage. The architectural set of The Way of the Cross, classified as a Property of Public Interest, is a heritage of inestimable value, unique in Portugal and in the world. In the last few decades, the biological and climatic factors have been the main causes of the degradation of the Buçaco National Forest’s heritage. The Gong cyclone, on the 19th of January of 2013, hit the Buçaco National Forest, including the sacred cultural estate heritage spread throughout the forest, which includes chapels, hermitages, stations of the cross and a convent. The cyclone also caused trees to fall leading to the destruction of several monuments. Therefore, it is urgent to rehabilitate and to preserve the heritage of the Buçaco National Forest. The evolution of the studies of risk analysis is extremely important to the preservation of the buildings, monuments and territory. It is necessary and urgent to assess the events that cause losses and damages, as well as to adopt action strategies using mitigation and prevention mechanisms that may minimize social and economic damages and losses. | pt |
