Sensibilização à língua gestual portuguesa: um estudo no 1º Ciclo

Abstract

O presente relatório descreve o desenvolvimento de um projeto de intervenção desenvolvido numa escola do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, do distrito de Aveiro. A temática geral deste trabalho foi a sensibilização para a Língua Gestual Portuguesa (LGP) e foi utilizado o livro O Som das Cores, de Paula Teixeira, como material de apoio em algumas das sessões desenvolvidas em ambiente de sala de aula. Este projeto teve como objetivos: (i) verificar as imagens e os conhecimentos que os alunos têm sobre a Língua Gestual Portuguesa e (ii) aumentar a consciência e os conhecimentos de alunos relativamente à LGP e à diversidade linguística no espaço português. Pretendeu-se igualmente alertar as crianças para a distinção dos conceitos de ser diferente e ser deficiente, para que estes alunos se tornem cidadãos mais conscientes e para que lutem por uma sociedade mais solidária. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo do tipo investigação-ação, em que foram utilizados dois inquéritos por questionário, fichas de registo dos alunos, uma entrevista à professora cooperante e ainda notas de campo baseadas na observação direta. Se no início os alunos revelaram algumas lacunas acerca da Língua Gestual Portuguesa, no final deste projeto os alunos conseguiam conhecer outra língua oficial de Portugal e compreender o sistema de comunicação que a LGP utiliza. Estes alunos consciencializaram-se da importância desta língua para os indivíduos que a utilizam, ao nível da comunicação e da relação com o Outro. Nota-se também que os alunos modificaram os seus conhecimentos e imagens acerca desta língua e dos seus falantes, no curso da implementação deste projeto de investigação. Para que este trabalho fosse articulado com os conteúdos programáticos do 3.º ano do Ensino Básico, foi necessário articulá-lo com a minha Prática Pedagógica Supervisionada. Desta forma, implementei o meu projeto durante algumas horas de português calendarizadas no horário da turma.

This report describes the development of an intervention project implemented in a primary school from the district of Aveiro. The theme of this work was to raise awareness to Portuguese Sign Language (LGP). We used the book “The Sound of Colors”, by Paula Teixeira, in some of the sessions developed within the classroom environment. This project aimed to: (i) identify the images and knowledge that students have about the Portuguese Sign Language and (ii) increase awareness and knowledge of students regarding the LGP and linguistic diversity in the Portuguese area. It is also intended to warn children about the distinction between the concepts of being different and being disabled, so that these students become citizens more aware of diversity and to fight for a more cohesive and democratic society. This is an action research study, in which we used two questionnaire surveys, records of student registration, an interview with the cooperating teacher, and some field notes based on direct observation. If at the beginning the students revealed some gaps concerning the Portuguese Sign Language, at the end of this project the results show that the students with whom we developed this research acknowledged the existence of another official language in Portugal, and understood the communication system that LGP uses. On the other hand, these students became more aware of the individuals who use this language to communicate, and how important it is to know and be able to communicate with the Other. Note also that the students changed their knowledge and images on this language and its speakers, in the course of the implementation of this research project. This research work was articulated with the syllabus comprised in my Teacher Training Practice. Thus, I implemented my project during the few hours of the scheduled time of the Portuguese class.
