Os ucranianos em Portugal : impacto da crise na interculturalidade

Abstract

A migração é um fenómeno controverso, que afeta múltiplos aspetos da vida social e enceta os mecanismos adequados em termos da legislação que visam harmonizar as interações complexas que emergem na sociedade de acolhimento. O fluxo imigratório, intenso e súbito, das pessoas da Europa de Leste, com predominância quantitativa da população ucraniana para Portugal, na viragem do século XXI, apontou um novo ciclo no processo da migração em Portugal. Neste âmbito, o presente estudo foca o impacto da crise económica e social que Portugal está a atravessar nas relações interculturais entre autóctones e imigrantes ucranianos que residem em Aveiro, com vista a averiguar se esta crise tem resultado num incremento de tensões sociais no contexto estudado. Os resultados de estudo não demonstram mudanças significativas nas relações inter-étnicas, revelando, no entanto, que existam algumas tensões no local de trabalho devido à concorrência por emprego suscitada pela crise económica.

Migration is a controversial phenomenon, which affects multiple aspects of social life and necessitates the implementation of appropriate mechanisms in terms of legislation to harmonize the complex interactions which arise in the host society. The intense and sudden immigration flows from Eastern Europe to Portugal at the turn of the XXI century, in which the Ukrainian population was predominant, marked a new cycle in the migration process in Portugal. Against this background, this study focuses on the impact of the social and economic crisis which Portugal is undergoing on the intercultural relations between the local and immigrant populations, in this case, Ukrainian immigrants in Aveiro, Portugal, with a view to assessing whether this crisis has resulted in an increase in social tensions in the context under study. The results do not reveal significant changes in intercultural and inter-ethnic relations, although there are some indications that tensions exist in the workplace due to competition for jobs raised by the economic crisis.
