O ensino do alemão nos liceus portugueses entre 1926 e 1949

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como tema o ensino do Alemão nos liceus portugueses, num período extremamente conturbado e controverso da história da Alemanha e de Portugal, nomeadamente o tempo do Terceiro Reich e dos primeiros anos do Estado Novo. Este estudo, que partiu da pesquisa, consulta, seleção e posterior análise crítica de legislação e de publicações periódicas da época, debruça-se sobre as reformas do sistema educativo português, ocorridas de 1926 a 1948, sobre a influência que exerceram na elaboração dos programas curriculares e sobre posição ocupada pelo Alemão no âmbito das línguas estrangeiras. É também analisada a evolução dos conteúdos temáticos que gradualmente se foram distanciando do estudo da literatura como meio de aquisição de conhecimentos culturais de um povo. Este trabalho pretende também pôr em evidência o papel desempenhado pelas teorias de ensino, do final do século XIX e do início do século XX, na escolha das metodologias didático-pedagógicas para o ensino do Alemão e na elaboração de manuais. Na última parte deste trabalho, é dado enfoque às atividades desenvolvidas nos liceus para a promoção das relações luso-alemãs, no âmbito de uma política de aproximação cultural e de difusão ideológica.

The present work aims to study the teaching of German in Portuguese secondary schools during an extremely turbulent and controversial period of German and Portuguese History, namely the time of the Third Reich and the early years of Salazar’s New State. This dissertation, which was based on the survey, selection and critical analysis of legislation and periodical publications of that time, focuses on the reforms of the Portuguese educational system from 1926 to 1948, as well as and their influence on the development of curricula and on the importance of German as a foreign language in Portuguese schools. The evolution of the topics, which gradually withdrew from the idea of studying literature as a means of acquiring cultural knowledge, is analysed as well. This work also aims to highlight the role played by education theories at the end of the 19th century and early 20th in the choice of methodologies for the teaching of German and the construction of course books. In the last part of this work, focus is given to the activities carried out in secondary schools to promote Portuguese-German relations in the context of a policy of cultural rapprochement and ideological diffusion.
