A língua portuguesa como mediadora entre a China e Angola

Abstract

A presente dissertação apresenta uma reflexão sobre as motivações que conduzem ao crescente interesse pela língua portuguesa na China. O estudo empírico tem por base o caso do Curso de Bacharelato em Língua Portuguesa, no Instituto Superior de Línguas Estrangeiras de Hunan. Neste contexto, foram aplicados questionários aos estudantes chineses do Curso de Língua Portuguesa, nesse instituto. Sublinhe-se que nenhum destes sujeitos tinham conhecimentos prévios de Português. A partir da análise dos dados obtidos, podemos identificar as motivações que levaram estes estudantes a procurar o curso de língua portuguesa. Dentro dos principais resultados, conseguiu-se perceber que o interesse pela aprendizagem de língua portuguesa relaciona-se com as políticas de cooperação entre a China e Angola e o facto de a língua portuguesa ser a língua política e de negócios nesse país africano, tornando-a, por isso, numa língua franca, uma ferramenta de comunicação entre a China e Angola. A crescente procura de trabalhadores chineses com conhecimentos de português e o facto de a língua portuguesa não ser tão geralmente conhecida quanto a língua inglesa leva ao aumento de boas perspetivas de emprego para os chineses que conheçam português.

This dissertation presents a reflection on the motivations that lead to growing interest in the Portuguese language in China. The empirical study i focuses the case of the Degree in Portuguese Language, at the Institute of Foreign Languages of Hunan. In this context, we applied questionnaires to Chinese students of the Portuguese Language Course, at that Institute. It should be referred that none of these students had prior knowledge of Portuguese. From the data analysis, one can identify the motivations that led these students to seek the Portuguese language course. Within the main results we can see that the interest in learning the Portuguese language is related to the political cooperation between China and Angola and the fact that Portuguese is the political and business language in this African country, making it into a língua franca, a communication tool between China and Angola. The growing demand for Chinese workers with knowledge of Portuguese and the fact that the Portuguese language is not as widely known as the English language leads to increased likelihood of good employment prospects for the Chinese students.
