Complementos e modificadores: o que mudou com o dicionário terminológico

Abstract

Com a presente dissertação pretendemos demonstrar que a nova terminologia linguística, constante do Dicionário Terminológico (DT), ainda que polémica em alguns aspetos, veio dar resposta a determinadas situações de descrição da língua para as quais a terminologia tradicional (de 1967) não apresentava soluções coerentes e rigorosas. Neste sentido, é nosso objetivo estudar aspetos práticos e atuais do conhecimento explícito da língua portuguesa, nomeadamente ao nível do domínio da sintaxe e da semântica, dando particular destaque às funções de complementos e modificadores, de forma a contribuir para um melhor esclarecimento na distinção destas funções. Para além disso, é feita uma reflexão sobre o processo de implementação da nova terminologia do DT e sua integração no Programa de Português do Ensino Básico e nas Metas Curriculares. São ainda tratados alguns aspetos que mostram a estreita relação entre a sintaxe e a semântica, as áreas gramaticais que estão na origem dos termos e conceitos de complementos e modificadores, bem como àquilo que os caracteriza e distingue, evidenciando as alterações face à tradição gramatical. Por fim, e com o intuito de constatar a apropriação e aplicação da nova terminologia linguística por parte dos alunos de 3º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, aplicam-se exercícios sobre as referidas funções sintáticas, seguidos das respetivas conclusões.

With this thesis we intend to demonstrate that the new linguistic terminology, found in the Terminological Dictionary (DT), though controversial in some aspects, was a response to certain descriptions of the language for which the traditional terminology (1967) did not have rigorous and consistent solutions. Thus, we aim to study the practical aspects and current explicit knowledge of the Portuguese language, namely in the area of syntax and semantics, with special focus on the functions of complements and modifiers in order to contribute to a better clarification on the distinction of these functions. In addition, there is a reflection on the process of implementation of the new terminology and the DT's integration in the Portuguese Elementary Education Curriculum and in the Curricular Goals. Besides that, we also focus on some aspects that show the close relationship between syntax and semantics, grammar areas that are at the origin of the terms and concepts of complements and modifiers, as well as to what characterizes and distinguishes them, showing the changes due to the grammatical tradition. Finally, and in order to verify the learning and use of the new linguistic terminology by the students of Elementary Education, we will apply exercises on these syntactic functions, followed by the respective conclusions.
