Abstract: | A globalização e liberalização facilitaram o acesso à atividade turística, mas
No
visitantes ativos, residentes envolvidos e visitantes passivos.
The globalization and the liberalization process have facilitated the access to tourism, but have also raised the consumers’ desires to another level. This society, also called as “the dream society”, wants to live experiences that make them progress, what makes even more important the significance of developing supplies of goods and services that cause, in each individual, strong emotions and meaning to their lives. Events can have, in this context, a very important role. However, few event studies include a comprehensive approach of the experience, considering all the dimensions that this construct integrates, and the investigation of potential determinants and consequences of the experience. Recognizing the gaps in events’ and Carnivals’ research, as well as the importance of ensuring a good Carnivals’ management, this thesis evaluates the experience lived by the participants in Ovar Carnival, an attraction with high visibility for the destination where it is held. In addition, the investigation also seeks to identify the potential determinants and consequences of the experience of this event. 165 valid questionnaires were collected and, supported by the Statistical Program for Social Sciences (SPSS), were tested significant relationships between the experience’s dimensions, the dimensions and the consequences of experience and between the determinants and dimensions of Carnival’s experience. The results show, for example, that the experience’s dimensions have positive relationships among each other, positively influence the satisfaction and loyalty of the participants on Ovar’s Carnival and that the experience depends on motivations, on means through which participants became aware of the event and on socio-demographic profile. The respondents were also segmented according to the Carnival’s experience, yielding three groups that should be considered when planning future Carnivals: young active visitors, involved residents and, passive visitors. This process enabled a better understanding on how to manage, in practice, tourist experiences |
