Abstract: | O presente trabalho investiga e testa a teoria dos ciclos político económicos no
assegurarem a reeleição.
afetam a volatilidade. The present study aims to investigate and test the theory of political business cycles in the Portuguese stock market. Examining whether governments put into place the mechanisms identified by existing theories, to ensure re-election, using as evaluation instrument the Portuguese Stock Index 20. Therefore, we study the impact of political factors on the returns and volatility of the stock market through the GARCH (1.1) model. The results do not prove the existence of political business cycles in Portuguese stock market, i.e. political factors do not influence the returns PSI20, only affect the volatility. |
