Fostering workforce engagement through a platform: web development using industrial cases

Abstract

This dissertation showcases the frontend development of a web platform developed as part of the Augmanity (Augmented Humanity) project, which aims to respond to the challenge of human resource management in the context of Industry 4.0, emphasizing the commitment of the workforce and human elements in the face of technological advances. Thus, the study explores technologies and their application in frontend web development, using a Design-Based Research approach, enabling iterative interface development for a responsive, user-centered platform, while promoting a spirit of community, communication, and continuous learning. The success of the result and its potential are addressed, while recognizing the limitations of the development. This work lays the groundwork for future research into the impact of the platform on employee retention and performance, advocating the evolution of engagement strategies and the integration of human technology in the industrial context.

Esta dissertação apresenta o desenvolvimento frontend de uma plataforma web única desenvolvida no âmbito do projeto Augmanity (Augmented Humanity) e que visa dar respostas ao desafio da gestão de recursos humanos no contexto da Indústria 4.0, enfatizando o compromisso da força de trabalho e os elementos humanos face aos avanços tecnológicos. Assim, o estudo explora tecnologias e a sua aplicação no desenvolvimento web frontend, recorrendo a uma abordagem de investigação baseada em Design-Based Research, permitindo o desenvolvimento de interfaces iterativo para uma plataforma responsiva e centrada no utilizador, que ao mesmo tempo promove um espírito de comunidade, a comunicação e a aprendizagem contínua. O sucesso do resultado e o seu potencial são abordados, reconhecendo-se simultaneamente as limitações do desenvolvimento. Este trabalho traça as bases para investigação futura sobre o impacto da plataforma na retenção e no desempenho dos trabalhadores, defendendo a evolução das estratégias de envolvimento e a integração da tecnologia humana no contexto industrial.
