e do OUR World in Data.
pandémica afetou negativamente o investimento direto estrangeiro e a incerteza
The pandemic caused by Covid-19 has impacted the lives of millions of people worldwide, both in terms of contagion and deaths and in economic and financial terms. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) was no exception. Before the pandemic, the European Union was one of the main global destinations for FDI. However, during the pandemic, when social distancing measures were taken to control the spread of the disease, FDI flows were heavily affected. The primary objective of this dissertation is to analyze the impact of the pandemic on FDI flows in the 27 European Union countries, using panel data analysis for the years 2020 and 2021. The data analyzed were extracted from the World Bank, IMF, and OUR World in Data databases. To ensure the robustness of the analysis, two uncertainty indices were introduced to measure pandemic-related uncertainty and general uncertainty. In the empirical analysis, the variables that became statistically significant were the two uncertainty-related variables. Thus, in this study, through empirical analysis, it was concluded that pandemic-related uncertainty had a negative impact on foreign direct investment, while general uncertainty increased foreign direct investment flows in the European Union during the pandemic. |
