O encontro com o outro: atitudes e conhecimentos interculturais em aula de inglês no 1º CEB

Abstract

O presente relatório pretende apresentar um projeto desenvolvido em aula de Inglês, com uma turma do 4.º ano do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico e teve como objetivo analisar de que forma atividades desenvolvidas no âmbito da educação para a diversidade cultural e linguística podem fomentar nos alunos atitudes de curiosidade e respeito face ao Outro, bem como conhecimentos sobre as línguas e sobre o Mundo, em aula de Inglês, desde os primeiros anos de escolaridade. Assim, para atingir esses objetivos, propus-me a, no âmbito da Competência Intercultural, trabalhar as atitudes e os conhecimentos das crianças. Para o fazer, recorri a atividades diversificadas de educação intercultural e à implementação de um projeto eTwinning. O projeto eTwinning, intitulado ‘’Let’s exchange Christmas cards and letters with our foreign friends’’, contou com a participação de uma turma da Polónia. Este projeto teve como objetivo que os alunos ‘’contactassem’’ com crianças da mesma faixa etária, de outro país, para despertar neles a curiosidade face ao Outro, através da troca de postais de Natal e de uma carta de turma. O projeto de investigação levado a cabo com a turma portuguesa foi de tipo investigação-ação, tendo sido utilizados os seguintes instrumentos de recolha de dados: registo fotográfico das atividades desenvolvidas, transcrições de momentos que ocorreram em sala de aula, notas de campo e inquéritos por questionário. Após concluída a análise dos dados recolhidos no decorrer do projeto, concluiu-se que as atividades desenvolvidas contribuíram positivamente para o desenvolvimento de atitudes de curiosidade e respeito face ao Outro e de vontade de conhecer mais sobre crianças de diferentes países. É de salientar a importância que este tipo de atividades em aula de inglês no 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico pode ter para promover atitudes de respeito e abertura face a diferentes tradições e culturas, nos primeiros anos de escolaridade.

This report presents a project carried out on a group of children in 4th grade of Primary Education, in the English class, which aimed to understand how activities developed within the scope of education for cultural and linguistic diversity can foster attitudes of curiosity in students and the respect towards the Other, as well as the knowledge about languages and the World, since the first years of schooling. In order to achieve these objectives, I set out to develop two of the competencies within the Intercultural Competence (IC): attitudes and knowledge. For that, I used diversified intercultural education activities and the implementation of an eTwinning project. The eTwinning project, entitled ‘’ Let’s exchange Christmas cards and letters with our foreign friends’’, was carried out in collaboration with a class from Poland. The aim of this project was to make students ‘’contact’’ with children of the same age group, from another country, to arouse their curiosity towards the Other, through the exchange of Christmas postcards and a letter from the class. The research project carried out with the Portuguese class was based on an action-research type, using the following data collection instruments: field notes, photographic record of the activities developed, transcriptions of moments that occurred in the classroom and surveys by questionnaire. The data analysis, gathered by the use of diverse methods and instruments, allowed us to conclude that the activities developed contributed positively to the development of attitudes of curiosity and respect towards the Other and the desire to learn more about children from different countries. It is worth mentioning the importance of this kind of activities in the English classes of Primary School, which may promote attitudes of respect and openness towards different traditions and cultures, in the first years of schooling.
