The purpose of this thesis, is to find the relation between the current consumption of a spindle with a polishing brush linked to it, with the force that that same brush applies on the surface of a metal piece, during the polishing process. Some polishing parameters are also studied, as well as the usage of machine vision to evaluate the polished surface quality. The work carried out started with a research on polishing methods and methods of evaluating the quality of a surface. Then, ways of instrumenting the quantities that intend to control in a process of this kind were studied, the necessary sensors were selected and the respective circuits were prepared. These circuits were later installed on a robot, as well as a spindle with the tool selected to the polishing process. The various tests that had been previously defined were carried out using a PLC to acquire the data read in real time by the sensors. After all tests performed, a camera was used to take zoomed in images of the surfaces of the polished blocks, making it easier to evaluate the surface quality of each block. |
