The recovery actions of the Iberian Lynx have had encouraging results; however, it is not free from the risk of extinction. Between the isolation of habitats, the vulnerability of the wild rabbit populations, climate change, and reduced genetic diversity, the search for new reintroduction sites suitable for its dispersal is still urgent. The Faia Brava Reserve, being part of a Natura 2000 Network area and having as its mission the rewilding of habitats and the conservation of endemic species, is a suitable area to study the conditions for this carnivore. In this work, parameters for the pre-selection of a reintroduction area were applied and it was found that the area does not yet have the capacity to sustain this species, mainly due to the low density of prey. However, the habitat quality, the reduced communication routes, and the connectivity with occurrence areas showed suitable conditions. Overall, it was possible to collect updated and crucial information that will facilitate future investigation and consideration by the entities responsible for the conservation of the Lynx pardinus. |
