Abstract: It is undeniable that mathematics is indispensable in education and practice of Engineering in all areas. In this paper we discuss the use of some active learning strategies on calculus applied in the first and second years of Engineering degrees. Among other experiences we report a flipped classroom experience, autonomous study and self evaluation using dedicated technological platforms and also active learning by solving proposed challenges outside the classroom where group and team work is encouraged in order to improve writing skills and the ability to communicate in mathematics.
