De olhos bem abertos: o design no apoio ao diagnóstico de perturbações visuais em crianças

Abstract

A presente dissertação reflete sobre a importância do Design no apoio ao diagnóstico de perturbações visuais em crianças com idades compreendidas entre os 4 e 7 anos, ressaltando a sua pertinência pela inexistência de um método de diagnóstico caseiro e precoce. Desta forma, propõe o desenvolvimento de um instrumento orientado para o público-alvo infantil mas também para os seus pais, capaz de ajudar na identificação de perturbações visuais como o Daltonismo, a Miopia, a Hipermetropia e o Astigmatismo. O livro daqui resultante, intitulado “De olhos bem abertos”, reinterpreta os exercícios pré-existentes usados em Oftalmologia, dotando-os de uma forte componente lúdica capaz de camuflar aquele que é o objetivo principal do Projeto: o diagnóstico. Seguindo uma metodologia Investigação-ação, apresentam-se os processos de avaliação com o público-alvo infantil e a paralela validação por parte de um oftalmologista pediátrico, considerando os resultados obtidos para reformular o Projeto. Assim, aliando as potencialidades da narrativa e da componente lúdica ao Design, pretende-se demonstrar como o Projeto “De olhos bem abertos” pode representar um contributo importante para o diagnóstico atempado e para uma melhor prevenção.

The present dissertation reflects on the importance of Design in supporting the diagnosis of vision conditions in children aged between 4 and 7 years, highlighting its relevance due to the inexistence of an early diagnosis method that can be made at home. In this way, it proposes the development of a tool aimed at the target audience, but also for their parents, which can be able to help to identify vision conditions such as Color Blindness, Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism. The book, entitled “De olhos bem abertos”, reinterprets the pre-existing tests used in Ophthalmology, providing them with a playful component capable of camouflaging the project’s main objective: the diagnosis. Following an action-research methodology, it is presented the evaluation process with the target audience and the parallel validation by a pediatric ophthalmologist, considering the results obtained to readjust the Project. Thus, combining the potential of the narrative and the playful component with Design, it is intended to show how the Project “De olhos bem abertos” can represent an important contribution to the timely diagnosis and a better prevention.
