A análise combinada
intervalo topo do Hauteriviano superior – Barremiano inferior.
caracterização da sequência sedimentar presente no corte estudado.
O trabalho está dividido em nove capítulos. O Capitulo I apresenta uma
principais conclusões do trabalho. A mineral assemblage can characterize a sedimentary layer and allow the establishment of stratigraphic correlations. The combined analysis of mineralogy and geochemistry with sedimentological and tectonic characteristics describes the most usual definition of the concept of “Basin Analysis”, with clay mineralogy and carbonate geochemistry contributing to the resolution of problems, such as, the establishment of the depositional environment, the characterization of sedimentary and diagenetic processes, among others. The main objective of this dissertation is the definition of the vertical evolution of mineralogical assemblages and geochemical contents throughout the Upper Hauterivian depositional sequence Ha7 of the Forte do Guincho section (Lusitanian Basin, Portugal), in order to establish methodologies based on mineralogical and geochemical studies. A detailed, bed by bed, survey of the whole sedimentary sequence of the Forte do Guincho section, corresponding to an interval between the uppermost Upper Hauterivian – Lower Barremian, was undertaken with the collection of a total number of 85 samples. The analytical techniques employed in this study were X-Ray Diffraction, for mineralogical analyses, and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and Flame Photometry, for geochemical analyses. Results concerning mineralogical assemblages and geochemical contents were obtained that allow the characterization of the depositional sequence present in the studied section. This work is organized in nine chapters. Chapter I presents a brief introduction and defines the objectives of the dissertation; Chapter II, gives the framework of the studied series in terms of the Lusitanian Basin; in Chapter III a general characterization of the study area is made; Chapters IV and V present, respectively, a characterization of clay minerals and geochemical parameters applied to the study of sedimentary basins; in Chapter VI a description is made of the methods followed and techniques employed in the study; Chapters VII and VIII present and discuss the obtained results; the last Chapter presents the main conclusions of the study. |
