dc.description.abstract | In the current dissertation was carried out a study on the machinability of AISI P20 mould steel in turning operations. For this process it was used two identical cutting tools but with different properties: one with higher resistant to wear (P05) and one with higher tenacity (P15). The study was conducted in three different phases. On a first stage it was evaluated the surface finishing of the workpiece and the form of chips obtained by using short cutting tests. On the second stage was measured the surface finish of the workpiece, the wear of the cutting tools (VB), the form of chips obtained and obtained the tool life curve according Taylor model, using long cutting tests. On these both stages it was verified what are the effects of the cutting parameters, such as the cutting feed, the cutting speed and the using tool in surface quality obtained. In short cutting tests were also examined the effect of using lubricant in the machinery. On the third and last stage it was predicted the forces and temperatures involved into cutting process, with a numeric simulation by finite elements method. | pt |
