epistemologia e ensino e aprendizagem desse domínio.
conhecimento duma forma eficaz e inovadora.
As cultural elements characteristic of a given society, the dominant believes about mathematics, in general, and specifically about geometry, have contributed to the fact that, in the last few years, this area of mathematics has been unduly treated in the classroom, and that seems to have happened with more intensity in the initial years of schooling. It was recognized recently that it may be exactly by the way of geometry that mathematics can be looked at and approached, in a perspective more in accordance with what we know today about the nature, epistemology, and the teaching and learning of this domain. On the other hand, school can no longer ignore that we live in an age characterized by the continuous expansion of the information and communication technologies, which may give a precious contribute to the construction of knowledge in an effective and innovative approach. The combination of all these aspects led us to consider that, as a teacher training institution, we should offer training programs that would contribute to a praxis capable of providing significant learning of geometry based in challenging activities, supported by complex dynamic environments totally controlled by the teachers to be. Such environment can provide interactions with knowledge and with the others, mediated by the artefact, ingredients in which are based the constructionist, socio-constructivist, and communal constructivist learning approaches. For these reasons, in our research we had as our main objective finding out how the attendance, by future elementary school teachers, of a course with a predominantly training approach based in solving problems/problematic significant situations in geometry, using the software Cabri-Géomètre, would contribute to an evolution of their representations mainly about mathematics and its teaching and learning process, specially about geometry and the use of the computer, and for a more adequate, significant and creative approach to geometry by these future teachers and, in last instance, for the construction of a new mathematics culture. The research that has been developed suggests that: a) the emergence of more favourable representations about geometry may cause some effect in the representations about mathematics; b) the relationship between representations and practices may be influenced by the cultural environment; c) the training in, and the systematic use of, a dynamic geometry environment may contribute to mathematics being considered a less hostile and more humanized domain and, on the other hand, useful ways of using the computer in the classroom may be identified. |
