TY: THES T1 - Vectorial scientific illustration: a graphic tool applied to mesopelagic fishes taxonomy A1 - Ribas, Felipe Oliveira N2 - Vectorial illustration has great advantages, since it is not resolution dependent, being always avaliable to edition and programmable. This study aims to create vectorial illustrations (In Adobe Illustrator), with capacity to be edit and adapted to taxonomical studies. The major structures for fish identification (photophores, finrays and lateral line), will be programmed with the Blend tool and further deposit in a symbol inventary to create editable patterns. The species used in this study were mesopelagic fishes from the families Myctophidae and Sternoptychidae, being this families important in trophic chain, connecting the zooplancton to top predators. Even being very abundant and with a high biodiversity, few identification guides are avaliable. In this study we create a guide for this species, using the vector libraries, leaving also this libraries avaliable for other researchers to complement with new species as more campaings are made and new species identified.
