Caracterização material e construtiva de edifícios de adobe em Aveiro

Abstract

Em Portugal, particularmente no distrito de Aveiro, existe um vasto património construído em alvenaria de adobe, encontrando-se grande parte ainda em utilização. Porém, um número significativo destas construções apresenta um pronunciado estado de degradação, e em alguns casos até abandono. Este cenário é resultado, por um lado, da ausência de medidas de reabilitação e reforço ou, quando estas ocorrem, da adopção de técnicas e materiais inadequados. Por outro lado, a falta de conhecimento sobre as características e comportamento das construções em adobe, bem como sobre soluções de reabilitação e reforço apropriadas, também justifica este cenário. Assim, com este trabalho pretende-se contribuir para o aprofundamento do conhecimento sobre as características, o comportamento e as anomalias mais comuns neste tipo de construções. Inicialmente, de forma a contribuir para a caracterização dos sistemas construtivos e patologias estruturais e não estruturais mais comuns dos edifícios em adobe, caracterizaram-se detalhadamente dois edifícios, localizados na cidade de Aveiro, representativos da construção local, através de inspecções visuais apoiadas em fichas de levantamento e avaliação específicas, desenvolvidas e testadas em trabalhos anteriores. Por forma a contribuir para a caracterização mecânica do adobe tradicionalmente utilizado em edifícios existentes no distrito de Aveiro, ensaiaram-se provetes extraídos de blocos de adobe recolhidos em dois edifícios existentes no concelho da Murtosa. Para o estudo da resistência à compressão simples do adobe, foram ensaiados à compressão simples provetes cúbicos e cilíndricos, comparando-se os resultados obtidos para os provetes com geometria diferente. Para o estudo da resistência à tracção, foram ensaiados à compressão diametral provetes cilíndricos e à flexão provetes paralelepipédicos, comparando-se os resultados obtidos para as duas séries de ensaio. Por último, de modo a contribuir para a caracterização do comportamento mecânico da alvenaria de adobe, construíram-se 5 paredes à escala real, com dimensões de 1,26x1,26x0,35 m3, ensaiadas posteriormente em compressão diagonal às juntas de assentamento. Os resultados obtidos com as inspecções e com os ensaios em laboratório contribuem para o enriquecimento do conhecimento sobre este rico património local em Aveio, que poderá ser utilizado em futuras acções de reabilitação.

In Portugal, particularly in Aveiro district, there is a vast heritage built with adobe masonry, which is largely still in use. However, a significant number of these constructions presents a pronounced state of degradation, and in some cases even abandonment. This scenario is the result, on the one hand, of the lack of rehabilitation and strengthening measures or, when these occur, of the adoption of inadequate materials and techniques. On the other hand, the lack of knowledge concerning the characteristics and behaviour of adobe constructions, as well as concerning the appropriate rehabilitation and strengthening solutions, further supports this scenario. Thus, with this work it is intended to contribute to a deeper knowledge concerning the characteristics, behaviour and the most common anomalies in this type of construction. Initially, in order to contribute to the characterization of the constructive systems and the most common structural and non structural pathologies of the adobe buildings, two buildings, located in the city of Aveiro, representative of the local construction, were characterized in detail, through visual inspections supported by specific survey and evaluation sheets, developed and tested in previous works. In order to contribute to the mechanical characterization of the adobe traditionally used in existing buildings in Aveiro district, tests were conducted on specimens extracted from adobe blocks collected in two existing buildings in Murtosa municipality. For the study of the simple compressive strength of adobe, cubic and cylindrical specimens were tested in simple compression, and the results obtained for the specimens with different geometries were compared. For the study of the tensile strength, cylindrical specimens were subjected to splitting tests, and parallelepipedic specimens to flexural tests, and the results obtained for the two test series were compared. Finally, in order to contribute to the characterization of the mechanical behaviour of adobe masonry, 5 walls were built in full-scale, with dimensions of 1,26 x 1,26 x 0,35 m3, and then tested in compression diagonal to the bed joints. The results obtained with the inspections and laboratory tests contribute to the enrichment of the knowledge concerning this rich local heritage in Aveiro, knowledge that can be utilized in future rehabilitation actions.
