do litoral.
XIX e início do séc. XX.
Habitats naturais/semi-naturais (do Anexo I da Directiva Habitats 92/43/CEE)
The National Forest of Leiria (NFL) is a coastal forest consisting mainly of maritime pine (Pinus pinaster). With total area of 11.080 ha, the NFL includes a coastal strip with 3.154 ha in extent, and its main functions are the production of high quality pine and the protection of the coastal dunes. Being the public forest with the highest revenue, the NFL is the country's most important forest from an economic stand point, having an 800 year old forest history dating back to the genesis of forest services and Portuguese forest management. It is a coastal area of the center with significant coastline vegetation, in which about 3.154 ha of forest protection are dunes fixed by the man at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Developed in the outer beach shoreline of the MNL, the dunes allowed planting the forest up to the sea and these were built using a technique called "Ripped Moving", by taking advantage of the existing natural conditions it was possible the formation of the artificial dune. This unique human intervention, used almost one century ago, was called "Arborization of Mobile Sands of Portugal". This intervention shaped the coastal landscape of the central Portuguese coast and provided the appearance of natural changes in coastline forest ecosystems, which are reflected today in the presence of a high number of endemic flora and priority natural Habitats, classified under the Habitats Directive. Throughout this work, 20 RELADE (Rare, Endemic, Protected, Located and in Danger of Extinction) species and 8 natural and semi natural Habitats (Annex I of the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC) were identified in the coastal zone of NFL spread over four areas of study: São Pedro de Moel, Praia Velha, Pedras Negras and Samouco. Being this fraction of the territory widely used mainly by their landscaping, forestry and recreational values, the present study also identified the main threats and potentialities in a global vision of sustainable development of coastal zone, based on instruments of regional planning. |
