Construir pontes entre a arte e a ciência

Abstract

A actividade artística é uma forma de raciocínio, na qual sentir e pensar estão indivisamente interligados. Uma pessoa que pinta, escreve, compõe, ou dança, pensa com os seus sentidos. Mas esta união da percepção e do pensamento não é apenas uma característica da criação artística; a actividade científica também a utiliza. Todo o pensamento fecundo ignora as linhas divisórias entre o estético e o científico. Ambas as áreas, Arte e Ciência, modificam, sintetizam e idealizam livremente a realidade. A tarefa comum é a construção de mundos através de sistemas de símbolos, o que não significa, de forma alguma, que Arte e Ciência sejam idênticas. A diferença relevante entre estas duas áreas de conhecimento deve ser procurada nos processos simbólicos utilizados, consequência dos seus diferentes interesses.

Artistic activity is a type of reasoning, in which feeling and thinking are indivisibly interlinked, a person who paints, writes, composes or dances thinks with their senses. But this union of perception and thought is not just characteristic of artistic creation; it is also used in scientific activities. All of the thought that is productive ignores the divisions between the aesthetic and the scientific. Both these areas, Art and Science modify, sum up and idealize reality freely. Usually the task is the construction of worlds through systems of symbols, which does not mean, in any way, that Art and Science are identical. The relevant difference between these two areas of understanding should be looked for in the symbolic processes that are used, a consequence of their different interests.
