processos de reconstrução pessoal e profissional do sujeito-professor. Within a praxeological perspective of Language Didactics, this study aims to understand how the discourse about intercomprehension, as an aim of language education, influences the linguistic and professional imagery of future language teachers. Thus, the following objectives were traced: (i) to identify the images about language as a curricular object in the discourse of language student teachers, (ii) to understand, in the light of the theme of intercomprehension, the dynamics between those images, the didactic knowledge and the professional identity of the student teachers, (iii) to identify moments of transformation and/or continuity, and (iv) to understand the educative potentialities of intercomprehension. The research process followed a group of four language student teachers along two years of their educational path: the attendance of two disciplines of Language Didactics (4th year) and the pedagogical practice (5th year). Embracing a narrative approach, the descriptive-interpretative analysis revealed a “grammatical”, pragmatic and monolithic image of language, experiential in nature, which dialogues and/or conflicts with a plurilingual and multidimensional image of language. Though the student teachers felt identified with intercomprehension, which led them to rethink their professional project, due to contextual and personal factors (initial didactic knowledge and students themselves), they were not able of translating it into a didactically concrete form. The image of a plurilingual teaching, which would foment intercomprehension, became an image in search of possibilities. The construction of didactic knowledge about intercomprehension brought about by the education process in which the student teachers were involved, contributed to the development of their plurilingual professional repertoire. This knowledge nourished and sustained the reconstruction of the future teachers’ image of language and, consequently, of their professional identity. This being the beginning of a practical theory about intercomprehension, the student teachers revealed the need for more training and support, in order to accomplish an effective integration of their thinking and of their action. We conclude that a sustainable change of the student teachers’ linguistic and professional imagery will depend on their political education, for which intercomprehension is assumed as a holistic and accional concept. For that purpose, we have traced some principles as possible guidelines to the development of formative practices, which may enhance the personal and professional reconstruction of the language student teachers. |
