Importância dos haplogrupos humanos na patologia mitocondrial

Abstract

O presente trabalho teve como base a literatura científica mais actual no sentido de rever a possível relação existente entre algumas patologias humanas e haplogrupos mitocondriais. Uma vez que os haplogrupos mitocondriais resultam de variações SNPs em regiões específicas do genoma mitocondrial interessa saber até que ponto essas alterações são plausíveis de originar desordens a nível da mitocôndria e por conseguinte responsáveis pela expressão fenotípica de diferentes doenças. Apesar do número crescente de pesquisas que se têm verificado nesta área que tentam esclarecer uma possível relação, entre patologias e haplogrupos, estes são ainda insuficientes, tornando-se fundamental dar continuidade a este tipo de estudos. Contudo é essencial que a amostragem utilizada seja representativa de um haplogrupo para que se possa estabelecer uma associação com uma determinada patologia.

The study was based on the most current scientific literature in order to analyse the possible existence of a relationship between some pathologies with the various mitochondrial haplogroups. Since the mitochondrial haplogroups result from SNP variations in specific regions of the mitochondrial genome, it is of interest to analyse to what extent these changes can alter the mitochondria and consequently give rise to the phenotypic expression of the different diseases. Even though various studies have been trying to clarify a possible relationship between these pathologies with specific haplogroups, it is fundamental to give continuity to these investigations. However, it is essential to ensure that the study samples used in these type of studies are representative of a specific haplogroup in order to establish an association with a certain disease.
