Abstract: | Com o objectivo de caracterizar a avifauna do sector ocidental do sistema
habitam preferencialmente a encosta eurosiberiana.
interespecifica, ameaçando as espécies restritas ao andar superior. In order to characterize the mountain birds in Portugal, and migratory and dispersive behaviors as adaptation to specific features of the mountain ecosystem, in order to gauge how can the birds respond to climate change, there were conducted biweekly census by the “Points Method”, between October 2009 and September 2010, in 33 fixed points in “Serra da Estrela”, Portugal, since 400 to 1993 meters of altitude. The counting period was 10 minutes, in which, according to test of the "optimum period of counting", is counted more than 90% of individuals and species. The results revealed an birds community with high number of species, diversity and percentage of threatened species. Is in the higher areas, that species of greatest rarity and typical of high mountains are distributed, although the overall abundance and the number of species decrease with altitude. Thus, is in the basal habitats, where exist the greatest abundance and richness of species. Despite of the human action, the different habitats have a characteristic bird fauna a and well-structured, more influenced by altitude than by bioclimate. Still, it is in the Mediterranean slope that exist a largest number of species and birds, with a higher prevalence of thermophilic species. Is in the Temperate slope that exist, preferentially, species typical of temperate climates. Most species has migratory populations, confirming the migration as the main adaptation of birds to mountain ecosystem. The interspecific competition will contribute to the start and end of the migration periods, once the arrival and departure of the wintering species coincides with the departure and arrival of the breeding species. The results reveal a relationship between the biogeographical origin and the phenology, and the distance of migration with the time that they spent in the study area. Other types of movements were evidenced by a high percentage of species that performs altitudinal movements, and others that show evidence of making longitudinal movements It was concluded, that birds do not respond directly to climatic changes but to changes in the habitats induced by them. Still, the larger variations percentage in the abundance of birds, is justified by biological factors such as resource availability and the competition. Thus, one can conclude that global climate change in the mountains, may not have a direct influence on the avifauna, but the potential migration of habitats towards the top, should allow its colonization by species typical of lower areas, potentiating the interspecific competition, and threatening the species restricted to the higher belts. |
