Alterações linguísticas na demência do tipo Alzheimer: um estudo com doentes em fase inicial

Abstract

Actualmente assiste-se a um aumento significativo da população idosa, devido ao aumento da esperança média de vida. O envelhecimento da população acarreta problemas de saúde, sendo que a linguagem é um importante factor para se manter um estilo de vida saudável e social. O presente estudo pretende identificar as dificuldades de linguagem/comunicação que os indivíduos enfrentam quando apresentam um quadro demencial do tipo Alzheimer e evidenciar as possibilidades da utilização da PALPA-P junto desta população. Tendo-se detectado uma lacuna em Portugal relativamente ao papel do Terapeuta da Fala na intervenção da linguagem em pacientes com demência do tipo Alzheimer, pretende-se também com este estudo enfatizar a importância do trabalho deste profissional no âmbito de uma equipa multidisciplinar. Objectivos: Verificar a existência de diferenças na linguagem de doentes com e sem Alzheimer. Metodologia: Avaliou-se grupos de oito doentes com DTA e oito indivíduos sem DTA. Aplicou-se cinco provas da PALPA–P, nomeadamente “Repetição de Frases”, “Leitura de Frases”, “Nomeação Oral”, “Compreensão Oral das relações Locativas” e “Escrita e Morfologia”. Realizou-se a anotação dos resultados obtidos, assim como uma análise comparativa entre os dois grupos estudados. Resultados: Verificou-se a existência de diferenças estatisticamente significativas para as provas “Repetição de Frases”, “Leitura de frases”, “Nomeação Oral”, Compreensão Oral de Relações Locativas”. Na prova “Escrita e Morfologia”, embora o desempenho dos doentes com DTA tenha sido bastante inferior ao grupo sem DTA, os resultados não foram estatisticamente significativos. Conclusão: De um modo geral verificou-se um desempenho inferior dos doentes com DTA quando comparados ao grupo sem DTA. Os resultados apontam para alterações da linguagem em doentes com DTA mesmo em fases iniciais.

Nowadays, we are witnessing a significant increase of the elderly population, due to the increase of life expectancy. Population aging leads to health problems, and language is an important instrumentr to maintain a healthy and social lifestyle. This study aims to identify the problems in language/communication that individuals have to face when they have a dementia of the Alzheimer type and highlight the possibilities of using the Palpa-P with this population. It was detected a shortcoming in Portugal, regarding he role of the Speech Therapist in language intervention in patients with Alzheimer's dementia, so the aim of this study is also to emphasise the importance of this professional work within a multidisciplinary team. Aims: checking the existence of differences in language of patients with or without Alzheimer. Methodology: Groups of eight patients were evaluated with DTA and eight individuals without DTA. Five tests of Palpa-P were applied, namely "Repeating sentences," "Reading Sentences", "Oral Appointment," "Listening comprehension of locative relations " and "Writing and Morphology." The results were registered, as well as the comparative analysis between the two groups studied. Results: existence of statistically significant differences for the tests of "repeating sentences," "Reading sentences", "Oral Appointment" "Listening comprehension of locative relations” . In the "Written and Morphology" test, although the performance of patients with DTA has been much lower than the group without DTA, the results were not statistically significant. Conclusion: there was a lower performance of patients with DTA compared to those without DTA. The results indicate changes of language in patients with DTA even in early stages.
