ABSTRACT: A study of the application of a new isolating material, namely aerogel, around the windows of the exterior walls in brick of the southern façade of Colégio de S. Jerónimo has been carried out using a bi-dimensional mathematical model of one of the windows. The goal of the present work was to study the thermal behaviour in steady state of the said construction element, using the THERM™ software developed by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The simulations showed that the usage of aerogel with a 10 mm thickness and the usage of double glazing yielded a significant reduction of heat transfer through exterior walls. The simulations also showed that the usage of isolating material is not totally efficient, whenever thermal bridges occur. | por |
