Eficiência energética em edifícios históricos da Universidade de Coimbra

Abstract

O estudo da aplicação de um novo isolante térmico, o aerogel, nas cantarias das janelas da fachada Sul do Colégio de S. Jerónimo, foi realizado utilizando um modelo matemático bidimensional de uma das janelas. O objectivo do trabalho foi estudar o comportamento térmico, no estado estacionário, do referido elemento de construção, com base no programa THERM™ desenvolvido pelo Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. As simulações permitiram verificar que a utilização de aerogel com uma espessura de 10 mm e a aplicação de vidro duplo nas caixilharias reduz em 81% a transferência de calor através das paredes exteriores. As simulações permitiram igualmente concluir que a aplicação do material isolante pode não ser totalmente eficaz, caso se verifique a existência de pontes térmicas.

ABSTRACT: A study of the application of a new isolating material, namely aerogel, around the windows of the exterior walls in brick of the southern façade of Colégio de S. Jerónimo has been carried out using a bi-dimensional mathematical model of one of the windows. The goal of the present work was to study the thermal behaviour in steady state of the said construction element, using the THERM™ software developed by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The simulations showed that the usage of aerogel with a 10 mm thickness and the usage of double glazing yielded a significant reduction of heat transfer through exterior walls. The simulations also showed that the usage of isolating material is not totally efficient, whenever thermal bridges occur.
