The aim of this work was to identify articles about Science published in Público in a year. With that purpose, the 363 editions published in 2005 were analysed. We have identified 1185 articles that were distributed by scientific domains for comparison with the data taken from ISI (Institute for Scientific Information). In addition, we have characterized the source of information used by the journalist. Also, we have studied the time distribution of the various articles. The articles that had a national source of information formed the Portuguese scientific community (CCP), whereas the articles with an international source of information formed the international scientific community (CCINT). The basic articles explaining some scientific phenomena were grouped in reference articles (ART REF). We have identified 906 articles from CCINT, 454 from CCP and 191 from ART REF. Clinic Medicine (140 articles) was the scientific domain with the largest number of articles with a CCINT source, while Mathematics, with only 6 articles, was the one least represented. The main source of information of CCINT laid upon scientific journals (458 references), Nature being the mostly used (114 references). CCINT showed, every month, a higher number of articles relative to CCP and ART REF. It had an irregular variation along the time. Social Sciences (general) (with 189 articles) was the scientific domain with the largest number of articles from CCP, while Chemistry, with zero articles, was the one with the least. The main source of information of CCP was the scientific institutions (137 references), being the mostly used the University of Porto (27 references). The number of articles published in each month showed an irregular variation. The ART REF showed a maximum of articles in Social Sciences (general) (27 articles), having a regular distribution along the year. In October they present a local maximum of articles (37 articles).
