Percepção das atitudes parentais na auto-valoração global do adolescente

Abstract

Desde sempre se configuraram como importantes na investigação do desenvolvimento a construção do self e a influência da percepção das atitudes parentais ou outras figuras significativas nesta edificação. Este estudo tem como principais objectivos verificar a importância da Auto-Valoração Global no desenvolvimento das auto-percepções de competência e avaliar a influência da percepção das atitudes parentais no desenvolvimento das auto-percepções de competência e da Auto-Valoração Global. Participaram neste estudo 341 adolescentes de ambos os sexos, entre os 12 e os 16 anos. Todos os sujeitos foram avaliados em grupos, com os instrumentos: “Como Sou Eu” de Susan Harter (1988), constituído pelas seguintes subescalas: competência escolar, aceitação social, competência atlética, aparência física, capacidade para uma profissão, apelação romântica, conduta comportamental, amizade íntima e auto-valoração global; o ”YPI – Youth Perception Inventory” de Shaefer (1965), adaptado para a população portuguesa por Fleming (1988) composto por 4 dimensões: amor, autonomia, hostilidade e controlo e um “Questionário Sócio Demográfico” elaborado para o efeito. Os resultados evidenciam que os adolescentes da nossa amostra têm uma Auto-Valoração Global acima da média e que esta subescala tem correlações positivas e significativas com as restantes de auto-percepções de competência. Verificou-se ainda que o sexo masculino revela maiores valores de Auto-Valoração quando comparados com o sexo feminino. A percepção das atitudes parentais apresentou índices de intensidade moderada em todas as dimensões, sendo a dimensão Autonomia a que obteve o índice mais elevado. Atendendo à correlação entre os dois instrumentos verifica-se que existem diferenças significativas quanto à Auto-Valoração Global e à Percepção das Atitudes Parentais, à excepção da subescala Amor. São referidas algumas implicações, nomeadamente a importância das percepções criadas sobre os pais e outras figuras significativas e as diferentes experiênciações com que o self é confrontado e que interferem directamente no seu desenvolvimento e na sua Auto-Valoração Global, promovendo um crescimento mais positivo, estruturado e significativo para o próprio adolescente.

The construction of the self and the influence of the perception of the parental attitudes or other significant figures in this edification had always been configured as important in the inquiry of the development. This study’s main goals are to verify the importance of the Auto Global Evaluation in the development of the auto perceptions of competence and to evaluate the influence of the perception of parental Attitudes in the development of the auto perceptions of competence and the Auto Global Valuation. As a model of the Auto Global Valuation a theoretical base was developed that seats in the perspective of Susan Harter about the development of the self. As for the Perception of the Parental Attitudes we explored the model of Shaefer about the Perception of the Parental Attitudes. 341 adolescents of both sex between 12 and 16 years participated in this study. All the subjects were evaluated in groups, in a collective form, with the instruments “As I Am” (including 9 subscales), the YPI – Youth Perception Inventory” (involving 4 dimensions) and a “Social Demographic Questionnaire” elaborated by us. The results show that the adolescents from our sample have Global Auto-Valuation above average and that this subscale has positive and significant correlations with the remaining auto perceptions of competence. We also verified that the male samples obtained higher levels of auto-valuation when compared with the female. The perception of the Parental Attitudes showed figures of moderate intensity in all its dimensions, being the dimension of autonomy the one with the highest level. Regarding the correlation between both instruments, we can find significant differences in terms of Auto Global Valuation and the Perception of the Parental Attitudes, except for the subscale of Love. Some implications are referred, namely the importance of the perceptions created in the parents and other significant figures and the different experiments the self is confronted with that interfere directly in their development and in their Global Auto-Valuation, promoting a more positive structured and significant growing to the adolescent himself.
