Turismo e morte no aljube: a prática turística como espaço de construção da(s) memória(s)

Abstract

Esta tese explora o conceito de Turismo Negro no contexto português, analisando como a presença da morte e do sofrimento em espaços turísticos, particularmente no Museu do Aljube - Resistência e Liberdade, influencia a construção das narrativas de memória entre os visitantes. Através de uma abordagem interdisciplinar fundamentada nos Estudos Culturais e utilizando a Teoria Enraizada como metodologia, o estudo examina as interseções entre turismo, memória e políticas de memória, com a morte e o sofrimento sempre presentes. O trabalho oferece uma compreensão aprofundada das dinâmicas de poder envolvidas na preservação da memória histórica e discute o papel do turismo como um meio de perpetuar ou desafiar essas narrativas. A investigação foca-se em quatro grupos de visitantes, destacando as diferentes maneiras como cada grupo interpreta e interage com os elementos expositivos que retratam a opressão, a violência e a morte perpetradas pelo Estado Novo.

This thesis explores the concept of Dark Tourism within the Portuguese context, analyzing how the presence of death and suffering in tourist spaces, particularly at the Aljube Museum - Resistance and Freedom, influences the construction of memory narratives among visitors. Through an interdisciplinary approach grounded in Cultural Studies and using Grounded Theory as a methodology, the study examines the intersections between tourism, memory, and memory politics. The work provides an in-depth understanding of the power dynamics involved in the preservation of historical memory and discusses the role of tourism as a means to perpetuate or challenge these narratives. The research focuses on four visitor groups, highlighting the different ways each group interprets and interacts with the exhibition elements depicting the oppression and violence of the Estado Novo regime.
