Tradução e análise da metodologia de tradução aplicada a uma obra de divulgação científica

Abstract

O texto de partida seleccionado para o desenvolvimento deste projecto, The Dancer's Way - The New York City Ballet Guide to Mind, Body, and Nutrition de Linda Hamilton, insere-se no Mestrado de Tradução Especializada, no âmbito específico das ciências e saúde. O tema abordado no texto de partida relaciona-se com a saúde física e mental dos dançarinos e destina-se a um público-alvo composto por especialistas e não especialistas na área da dança e, eventualmente, na área da saúde. Consequentemente, sendo a realidade cultural do público-alvo do texto de chegada diferente, o tradutor teve que assumir frequentemente a função de mediador e adaptar o texto ao receptor. Este relatório visa apresentar uma metodologia tradutológica possível para abordagem de um texto com as características acima descritas. Do mesmo modo, pretende-se apresentar uma reflexão teórica, sustentada com exemplos práticos, acerca dos problemas tradutológicos detectados ao longo das fases de prétradução, tradução e pós-tradução, e nas opções tomadas como solução possível, nomeadamente ao nível da palavra, da frase, da supra-frase e da cultura.

The source text chosen for developing this project was the Dancer's Way - The New York City Ballet Guide to Mind, Body, and Nutrition, by Linda Hamilton. A text to be translated in the ambit of the Masters Degree in Specialized Translation in the field of sciences and health. The source text subject-field is the physical and mental health of dancers and it is directed to a specialist and non-specialist targetaudience in the field of dance and, ultimately, in the field of health. The translator had to frequently take on the position of mediator and adapt the text to the new receptor, once the cultural reality of the source text audience is different from that of the target text audience. This report presents a possible translation method applicable to texts with similar characteristics. It also presents theoretic reflexion supported by real translating problems found during the pre-translation, translation and post-translation phases. Namely, possible solutions not only at the word level but also above word level as well as cultural references.
