Contributos para a história da edição em Torres Novas: (de meados do século XIX até ao ano 2010)

Abstract

A partir de um corpus documental de cerca de 150 títulos composto por todas as obras (livro) publicadas em Torres Novas, do início do século XX até ao final do ano 2010, e de um esboço da história da imprensa local torrejana (desde 1853) desenham-se as primeiras linhas para uma história da edição em Torres Novas, com o objectivo de compreender a actividade editorial neste concelho, desde meados do século XIX até à primeira década do século XXI: os temas, os autores, as práticas editoriais, etc.Definem-se conceitos pouco explorados como o de «edição local» e clarificam-se as suas tipologias editoriais: a imprensa local, as edições institucionais, a edição de autor e as pequenas editoras. A par da pesquisa, desenvolve-se uma reflexão sobre a importância das edições locais enquanto espaço de desenvolvimento das identidades numa determinada comunidade que se sente pertença de um mesmo grupo que habita, física e simbolicamente (também através das suas memórias e do seu imaginário), um determinado território.

Based on a documental Corpus containing about 150 titles composed by all the books published in Torres Novas from the beginning of the 20th century until the end of the year 2010, and also on a sketch of the history of the local press (since 1853), the first lines of the history of the press in Torres Novas are drawn with the aim of understanding the editorial activity in the town council, from the mid 19th century until the first decade of the 21st century: the topics, the authors, editorial practices…Concepts which have not been well/fully analysed get defined, such as “local edition” and their editorial typologies are clarified like the local press, the institutionalized editions, the author’s edition and small publishing house.During the research, some questions arose about global/local dialogue, advantages and disadvantages of the digital technologies of edition and the use of Internet for the local edition activity. A reflection has also made about the importance of local editions for the development of identities of a community, which feel part of a group that lives, physically and symbolically, (also through their memories and their imaginary) in a defined territory.
