The incidence and mortality of cancer are significantly higher in individuals over 65 years old and old age can influence the effectiveness of treatment and the quality of life of the individuals. Therefore, there is the need to understand the changes that occur with the aging process in the context of cancer. The main objectives of this study were to characterise the quality of life, the needs of the elderly population with cancer and analyse the results according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). For the development of this study, the Elderly Assessment System (EASYcare) and European Organization For Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC-QLQ-C30) were applied on 32 patients over 65 years old with cancer and who were being treated in the oncology service of the Infante D. Pedro Aveiro's Hospital. The results indicated low levels of disability in all the assessed domains, and the most affected areas were related to the mental health and well-being in EASYcare and to the functional scale in the EORTC-QLQ-C30. Participants over 74 years old presented more skin problems (p = 0.037), more bladder accidents (P = 0.008), more difficulties in walking outdoors (p = 0.003) and were the ones who needed more help to get their medications (p = 0.039). The integration of the questionnaires according to the ICF revealed that, the Activity domain was the most affected in the EORTC-QLQ-C30, whereas in the EASYcare the Structure and Body Function was the domain more affected. It was also possible to verify that, in the presence of this questionnaires, participants over 74 years old had more activity limitations (p = 0.043). The results highlight the need to understand the quality of life of this population, being essential to perform a holistic evaluation of the patient and integrate the results according to a standardised language to enhance treatment and assistance approaches to elders with cancer.por
