Representação social da morte em contexto militar

Abstract

Aliada à existência humana, a morte tornou-se ao longo da história companheira de reflexão do Homem, torneando os seus pensamentos, percepções, atitudes e comportamentos. É postada como fonte de desesperança humana, que a morte se assume como um dos verdadeiros tabus sociais ao longo dos tempos e esta é uma problemática que se ergue no enorme vazio que medeia o acto de morrer, em que o desconhecido, a dúvida, a incerteza da senda que a morte traduz, se apresentam como uma situação incauta para o ser humano. É imersa na incapacidade de aceitação da morte como parte integrante e legítima da vida humana, na assumpção da vulnerabilidade humana perante a morte, que a sociedade dos dias de hoje procura desvanecer a sua existência, repudiando-a veemente da sua vida, numa ingénua tentativa de evitar o inevitável confronto final, no qual o Homem que desde sempre procurou a eternidade do ser, arcará o guião do eterno derrotado. A perspectiva da morte, que a própria sociedade modificou ao longo dos séculos, retirou-a do estatuto de elemento social caracterizador da espécie humana, tornando-a suja e imoral. O desenvolvimento da cultura social, aliado à evolução da qualidade de vida, modificou a forma de pensar do Homem, bem como as atitudes face à morte. A incompreensão da morte como elemento intrínseco da condição humana mudou a forma de vida do indivíduo, modificou a sua postura social, conduzindo-o ao refúgio da individualidade do ser. Neste contexto social que se apresenta como mutável, subsiste uma sociedade secular vincada por valores e comportamentos singulares, na qual o conceito de morte, retratado como uma especificidade inerente à condição militar, leva à assumpção da finitude do ser como um compromisso de vida para quem a salvaguarda do interesse público prevalece em detrimento da vida pessoal. Conscientes de que o militar como elemento social é compelido para a adopção de novos comportamentos e atitudes, surge esta pesquisa, realizada através de uma abordagem quantitativa e caracterizada por ser um estudo de carácter descritivo essencialmente exploratório, que apresenta as seguintes questões de investigação: - Qual a representação social que os militares da categoria de Sargentos da Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) têm da morte? - Quais os factores que condicionam a representação social da morte e a ansiedade face à morte nos militares da categoria de Sargentos da Guarda Nacional Republicana? Neste âmbito e partindo de hipóteses associadas às características sóciodemográficas, à vivência de experiências próximas de morte e às atitudes perante o contexto da eutanásia, procura-se, partindo das crenças, emoções, comportamentos, imagens, atribuições e ansiedade associadas à morte, dar a conhecer as dimensões que organizam as representações da morte, em militares da categoria de Sargentos da Guarda Nacional Republicana. Este estudo é vertido através dos dados recolhidos numa amostra de 116 Sargentos do 32º Curso de Formação de Sargentos, seleccionada através de métodos não probabilísticos (não casual) por intermédio do método de amostragem por conveniência, tendo sido aplicados como instrumentos de recolha de dados, o inquérito por questionário, a escala de dimensões significativas da morte de Oliveira (1995) e a escala de ansiedade face à morte de Conte, Weiner e Plutchic (1982) adaptado por Simões e Neto (1994) e readaptado por Oliveira (1997). Os dados obtidos foram trabalhados por análise estatística com recurso à aplicação informática do pacote estatístico para as ciências sociais, versão 18 para Windows. Face aos resultados obtidos na amostra, podemos verificar que as dimensões significativas que mais estruturam as representações sociais da morte da amostra são: Vida Além da Morte com uma média de 3,20 e a Morte de Outro com uma média de 3,09, apresentando esta amostra uma grande ansiedade face à morte, com uma média de 28,76 e desvio padrão de 8,95.

Allied to human existence, death has become throughout the history of human thought mate, turning their thoughts, perceptions, attitudes and behaviors. It is posted as a source of human hopelessness, that death is assumed as one of the true social taboos over the years and this is an issue which stands in the huge void that mediates the act of dying, which the unknown, doubt, uncertainty of the path that leads to death, they come as a reckless situation for humans. It is immersed in an inability to accept death as an integral and legitimate part of human life, in taking human vulnerability before death, the society of today demand their existence vanish, it vehemently repudiating his life in a naive attempt to avoid the inevitable showdown, in which Man has always sought to be eternity, the script will bear the eternal defeat. The prospect of death, that society itself has changed over the centuries, withdrew to the status of social element that characterizes the human species, making it dirty and immoral. The development of social culture, together with the evolution of quality of life, changed the thinking of man as well as the attitudes towards death. The incomprehension of death as an intrinsic element of the human condition has changed the lives of individuals has changed its social posture, leading him to be the refuge of individuality. In this social context that is presented as changeable remains a secular society highlighted by unique values and behaviors, in which the concept of death, portrayed as a specificity inherent in the military condition leads to the assumption of finiteness of being as a lifetime commitment to those who safguarding the public interest outweighs the detriment of personal life. Aware that the military and social element is compelled to adopt new behaviors and attitudes, there is this research, conducted through a quantitative approach and characterized as a study of descriptive nature essentially exploratory, which presents the following research questions: - What is the social representation of the military class of Sergeants of the National Republican Guard (GNR) have death? - What factors influence the social representation of death and anxiety in the face of death in the military category of Sergeants of the National Republican Guard (GNR)? In this context and based on assumptions related to demographic characteristics, the experience of near death experiences and attitudes towards euthanasia context, the aim is, based on the beliefs, emotions, behaviors, images, roles and anxiety associated with death, get to know the dimensions that organize the representations of death in the military category of Sergeants of the National Republican Guard. This study is poured through the data collected from a sample of 116 Sergeants of the 32nd Training Course for Sergeants, selected by methods not probabilistic (not casual) through the method of convenience sampling, were applied as tools for data collection, the questionnaire, the scale of significant dimensions of the death of Oliver (1995) and anxiety scale compared to the death of Conte, Weiner and Plutchic (1982) and adapted by Simões Neto 1994) and re-adapted by Oliveira (1997). The data were processed by statistical analysis using the computer application of statistical package for social sciences, version 18 for Windows. Considering the results obtained in the sample, we found that the most significant dimensions that structure the social representations of death in the sample are: Life Beyond Death with an average of 3.20 and the Death of Another with an average of 3.09, showing that sample a great anxiety in the face of death, with an average of 28.76 and standard deviation of 8.95.
