A retórica do olhar no romance "Nenhum Olhar" de José Luís Peixoto

Abstract

Esta dissertação tem como objecto de estudo o olhar como forma de silêncio no romance Nenhum Olhar, de José Luís Peixoto. Num primeiro momento, procurámos analisar o funcionamento comunicativo do olhar entre as personagens, produzido à margem do signo verbal e que se manifesta quer através da dispensabilidade da palavra, quer através da eloquência do olhar, quer através do olhar como substituto do dizer. Num segundo momento, debruçámo-nos sobre o olhar da escrita, ou seja, sobre o modo como a visão do narrador acerca da matéria narrada enforma uma certa retórica do olhar. Conferimos, neste sentido, particular importância à omnisciência do narrador, às oscilações da visão e da perspectiva, à ambiguidade da escrita e analisámos, ainda, as frases que, em nosso entender e no romance em causa, se constituem como elementos estruturantes da narrativa.

This essay has its study object on the look as a way of silence in the romance No Look, of José Luis Peixoto. Firstly, one tried to analyze the communicative functioning of the look between the characters, produced without the verbal sign, revealing itself through the dispensability of words, through the eloquence of the look, and through the look as substitute of words. Secondly, one made a reflection on the look of the writing, that is, the way the narrator’s vision shapes a rhetorical version of the look on the narrated themes. One conferred special importance to the omniscience of the narrator, to the oscillations between vision and perspective, to the ambiguity of the writing and analyzed the phrases that became structuring elements of the narrative.
