“Foram anos absolutamente brutais!” Sons e memórias do rock na região de Aveiro (1950-2000)

Abstract

O presente artigo pretende contribuir para a memória do rock na região de Aveiro em Portugal através dos testemunhos de músicos que integraram conjuntos de rock cuja atividade decorreu entre os finais da década de 1950 e 1990. Interessa-nos a dinâmica gerada na região pela recepção do rock internacional que conduziu à criação dos conjuntos de rock através de iniciativas locais. Para isso importa caracterizar o contexto social, económico e político em que esses conjuntos emergiram, as suas motivações, os repertórios escolhidos, as dificuldades que enfrentaram, e as transformações a que estiveram sujeitos. Essas transformações abrangem diferentes aspetos que se articulam diretamente com a forte alteração política que decorre da revolução de Abril de 1974 e suas consequências no domínio do acesso à educação, às possibilidades de profissionalização e às tecnologias de suporte no quadro do mercado da música.

This article aims to contribute to the memories of rock in the Aveiro region of Portugal, through the testimonies of musicians that participated in rock bands between the late 1950s and 1990. We are particularly interested in the dynamic created in the region by the arrival of international rock, which led to the formation of rock bands through local initiatives. Thus, it is important to characterize the social, economic, and political contexts from which these bands emerged, their motivations, their repertoires, the difficulties they faced, and the transformations they underwent. These transformations include different aspects which are directly related to the strong political change that occurred due to the revolution of April 1974 and its consequences in terms of access to education, to professional possibilities and to technological supports relating to the music market.
