Palavras convergentes e divergentes: desafios para alunos chineses

Abstract

A presente dissertação pretende determinar o grau de conhecimento etimológico detido pelos alunos no que diz respeito a palavras convergentes e divergentes. Com base na prévia revisão de literatura, o presente um estudo visa determinar o grau de conhecimento etimológico detido pelos alunos, bem como averiguar se o conhecimento etimológico pode auxiliar na identificação de uma palavra desconhecida. Para este fim, construiu-se um instrumento de recolha de dados que foi aplicado junto de estudantes chineses de português como Língua Segunda, a estudar na Universidade de Aveiro. Os dados obtidos revelaram que os alunos apresentam muitas dificuldades independentemente do seu nível de proficiência ou do tempo de estudo da língua. Ademais, verificou-se que existe uma tendência para o uso do critério da proximidade gráfica aquando da identificação dos étimos.

The present dissertation intends to determine the degree of etymological knowledge the students hold regarding convergent and divergent words. Based on the previous literature review, this study aims to assess the degree of etymological knowledge held by students and to find out if etymological knowledge can help in the identification of an unknown word. To this end, a data collection instrument was built and has been applied to Chinese students of Portuguese as a Second Language, studying at the University of Aveiro. The data obtained revealed that students have many difficulties regardless of their level of proficiency or time spent studying the language. Furthermore, there is a tendency to use the criterion of graphic proximity when identifying etymons.
