À descoberta da matemática dos guarda-joias do MusA: isometrias e simetrias

Abstract

Com esta dissertação, pretende-se essencialmente homenagear o Eng.º Joaquim Domingos Capela, numa dimensão artística, na demanda da beleza das formas e dos materiais utilizados assim como o rigor científico da geometria subjacente à construção de guarda-joias sem recurso a qualquer computador e muito menos a qualquer software matemático. Dos inúmeros guarda-joias doados pelo autor ao MusA, foram analisados treze deles, construindo modelos matemáticos 3D através do software de acesso livre GeoGebra. Os guarda-joias trabalhados apresentam as seguintes denominações: Arte, Baco, Baú, Beatriz Costa, Coroa, Fórum, Harmonia, Medina, Mosaico, Pérola, Solidão, Tapete e Teatro.

With this dissertation, we intend essentially to pay homage to the engineer Joaquim Domingos Capela, in an artistic dimension and in the demand of the beauty of the forms and the materials used, as well as to the scientific rigour of the geometry underlying the construction of jewellery boxes without using any computer and much less any mathematical software. Thirteen of the many jewellery boxes donated by the author to MusA were analysed by building 3D mathematical models using the free software GeoGebra. The jewellery boxess considered have the following denominations: Arte, Baco, Baú, Beatriz Costa, Coroa, Fórum, Harmonia, Medina, Mosaic, Pérola, Solidão, Tapete, and Teatro.
