Relatório de estágio em Coordenação de Estudos Clínicos no C.H.U.C, E.P.E

Abstract

No âmbito do Mestrado em Gestão da Investigação Clínica, foi realizado um estágio curricular em Coordenação de Estudos Clínicos, no Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra. Este estágio teve como objetivos aplicar o conhecimento teórico obtido no primeiro ano do Mestrado e adquirir experiência em Coordenação de Estudos Clínicos, ao nível dos estudos observacionais e dos ensaios clínicos, em ambiente hospitalar. No primeiro capítulo, o presente relatório, apresenta um estado de arte acerca da Investigação Clínica em Oncologia e o Impacto do Covid-19 nesta área, seguido de uma contextualização sobre a instituição de acolhimento e os objetivos do estágio. No segundo capítulo encontram-se descritas as atividades realizadas. Aborda-se, inicialmente, o conhecimento geral necessário obter antes de iniciar as atividades, e seguidamente o conhecimento específico dos estudos clínicos. Nesta secção estão descritas as atividades realizadas enquanto estagiária em Coordenação de Estudos Clínicos. As atividades foram, inicialmente, realizadas na área de Pediatria e, posteriormente, em Oncologia Médica em áreas terapêuticas como, Hematologia, Pneumologia, Dermatologia e Medicina Interna. Adicionalmente, no final do estágio, foi possível coordenar um ensaio humanitário COVID-19. No final do relatório encontra-se uma discussão, onde são discutidas as dificuldades e desafios encontrados durante o estágio, e a conclusão, onde é referida a importância de um coordenador de estudos clínicos na investigação clínica. Assim, o estágio curricular contribuiu para a aquisição de competências, tanto a nível profissional como pessoal, conhecimento e experiência suficientes para começar uma carreira profissional na área da Investigação Clínica.

Within the Master's Degree in Clinical Research Management scope, a curricular internship was carried out in Clinical Research Coordination at the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra. This internship aimed to apply the theoretical knowledge obtained in the first year of the Master's and acquire experience in Coordination of Clinical Studies, at the level of observational studies and clinical trials, in a hospital environment. In the first chapter, the present report presents state of the art about Clinical Research in Oncology and the Impact of Covid-19 in this area, followed by a contextualization of the host institution and the internship objectives. The second chapter describes the activities performed. Initially, the general knowledge necessary to obtain before starting the activities is addressed, followed by the specific knowledge of clinical studies. This section describes the activities performed as a Clinical Research Coordinator trainee. Initially, the activities were carried out in the area of Pediatrics and later in Medical Oncology, in therapeutic areas such as Hematology, Pneumology, Dermatology, and Internal Medicine. Additionally, at the end of the internship, it was possible to coordinate a COVID-19 humanitarian trial. At the end of the report, there is a discussion where the difficulties and challenges encountered during the internship are discussed, and a conclusion where the importance of a clinical trial coordinator in clinical research is mentioned. Thus, the curricular internship contributed to the acquisition of skills, both professionally and personally, sufficient knowledge and experience to start a professional career in the field of Clinical Research.
