Abstract: | A pandemia COVID-19 veio relembrar o quanto a nossa saúde é vulnerável a
The COVID-19 pandemic reminded us how vulnerable our health is to immediate threats that emerge from the ecosystems we inhabit. Global threats such as pollution, diseases, overpopulation, climate change, etc. are obvious consequences of our actions that lead to various outcomes such as the loss of biodiversity. As the ocean is the largest ecosystem on Earth, it exerts a greater influence than any other on our climate, weather and biodiversity, we can say that it affects global food production and international trade. Much more importantly, human health is inextricably linked to the health of the ocean. "We are what we eat" and therefore we must be aware of sustainable food, including knowing how our food comes to our plate, in this case, how it was fished, how it is treated, and bearing in mind that the environment gives us back what we provide it. Artisanal fishing is a type of fishing in which the fish is caught and brought to the fish market on the same day, increasing the freshness and quality of the fish by not spending seasons at sea, and it also helps the local communities’ trade. “Arte Xávega” is a form of sustainable artisanal fishing still used on the Aveirense coast, which consists of a vessel that leaves the beach and leaves the net on the sand, forming a encirclement in its path, and when it returns to the beach, it collects the nets, dragging the fish that was contained within the perimeter of the net. Scientific Illustration comes as a tool to help pass this message, sometimes rigorous and scientific, into something accessible to everyone, laying out and simplifying complex information without losing its rigorous character through illustrations and appealing compositions, easily accessible for the less literate. We present a proposal for a poster and table placeholders that would serve to place in local restaurants, to educate the community about some fish that can be consumed in these restaurants and also as an awareness-raising action for the protection and conservation of our seas. |
