A China e a nova ordem internacional

Abstract

Como diz um excerto do Daodejing, “cada longa viagem começa com um único passo”. Os tempos estão a mudar e a (re)emergência da China como superpotência mundial é cada vez mais clara. Nas últimas décadas, a hegemonia norte-americana, a ordem internacional, a influência, valores e princípios ocidentais têm vindo a declinar. Esta tendência contrasta com o Resto, encabeçado pela China. O Resto é, nos dias de hoje, um símbolo de êxito, com tecnologia de ponta, com setores bem desenvolvidos e um (stake)holder próspero do palco internacional. Este trabalho analisa como o “declínio do Ocidente” e o “erguer do Resto” são uma oportunidade única para a implementação de uma (possível) nova ordem internacional liderada pela segunda maior economia do mundo, a China.

“Each journey begins with a single step”, so it goes a well-known quote from the Daodejing. Times are changing and the (re)emergence of China as a global superpower has become more than obvious. Over the past decades, the existing international order, American hegemony, western influence, its values and principles, seem to have shown a declining tendency. By contrast, the Rest, led by China, emerges as a symbol of wealth, advanced technologically, fully developed and, last but not least, as a prosperous (stake)holder in international affairs. This thesis analyses how the “Decline of the West” and the “Rise of the Rest” are a unique opportunity for the establishment of a new international order, led by the 2nd largest economy of the world, China.
