Abstract: | Este relatório descreve o trabalho experimental desenvolvido
A presença
This document describes the experimental work developed during the curricular internship at Ria Stone. It is the result of the study of a metal marking problem observed in light colored stoneware glazes. The purpose of this work was to study the influence of crystals (already present or later added) on the metal marking of stoneware glazes. Previous studies on the influence of the zircon addition (opacification agent) and the possible dissolution of this compound in the glazes, and its contribution on the surface roughness of glazes with different textures have been developed. No studies are found on the influence of the use of other opacification agents or on the distribution of crystals on the surface of the glazes. Metal marking can be related with the presence of crystals on the surface of the glazes. Two different matte glazes were used (VM1 and VM2), with different chemical compositions, varying the maximum temperature (Tp) of the firing cycle. A transparent glaze was also used (VT) with various individual additions of different agents involved in the opacification process (zircon and aluminum oxide). X ray fluorescence (only for VM1 and VM2) and X ray diffraction were the techniques used to characterize the glazes. The samples were subjected to metal marking testing and were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Average surface roughness (Ra) was also measured. It was observed that the difference in the chemical composition of the glazes leads to the formation of different crystals. The presence of these crystals on the surface results in products less resistant to metal marking. The type and amount of crystals found on the surface influences their distribution in the glaze. The most influential factors relative to metal marking seem to be the chemical type of the crystals (glaze composition) and their distribution on the surface of the glazes (presence and amount). Surface roughness appears to be only an indicative of the influence of crystals in the experimental conditions used in this study. |
