Energy consumption continues to increase significantly around the world, with an estimated 30% increase in global energy needs by 2040. With increasing environmental concerns wind energy is the big bet for the future, and by up to 2050 reaches 300 GW of installed power, combining onhsore and offshore. With regard to offshore, transportation and installation still have a major impact on the total project cost, although it is estimated that in the future it will decrease by approximately 25%. Currently, offshore wind farms are located in the North Sea due to the wind conditions, low sea depth and energy policies of the surrounding countries. Thus, transportation from Portugal to the main markets is economically significant and can be an elimination factor in the choice of supplier. This project was primarily aimed at conducting a study on the supply chain of ASM Industries. The predominance of the logistic factor is exemplified by the analysis of transport costs between the ASM Offshore production unit and a North Sea wind farm. |
