1968 (e depois): representações da juventude nos romances Heißer Sommer, de Uwe Timm, e Sem tecto, entre ruínas, de Augusto Abelaira

Abstract

A presente dissertação propõe-se analisar as representações da juventude nos romances Heiβer Sommer (1974), do autor alemão Uwe Timm, e Sem Tecto, entre Ruínas (1979), do escritor português Augusto Abelaira. Depois de uma contextualização histórica, social e cultural da República Federal da Alemanha e de Portugal durante os «irreverentes» anos 60, o estudo comparatístico incidirá sobre as figurações da juventude nestes dois romances, cujo tempo histórico recai no ano de 1968 – um ano de sintonia intercontinental entre os jovens. O activismo político da juventude de finais de 60, o seu percurso de libertação sexual e o conflito com a geração dos pais merecerão especial destaque neste estudo. Do mesmo modo, a perspectivação da juventude pelos protagonistas dos dois romances – emblemáticos das duas gerações em confronto – será objecto de abordagem comparatística

This dissertation seeks to analyse the literary representation of youth in Uwe Timm’s Heiβer Sommer (1974) and Augusto Abelaira’s Sem Tecto, entre Ruínas (1979). After having outlined the historical, social and cultural context of the Federal Republic of Germany and Portugal in the course of the «roaring sixties», the comparative section will focus specifically on the fictional depictions of youth patent in both novels which, in addition, take the year of 1968 as historical milestone and epitome of intercontinental youth convergence. The political activism of youngsters during the late 60's, their urge for sexual liberation and the gap dividing their own generation from that of their parents will be closely inspected from a comparative standpoint. Moreover, the perspectives on youth provided by the protagonists in both novels will be examined comparatively, taking these characters as emblematic representatives of each of the two confronting generations.
